Coastal Scents Twelve Piece Brush Set Review

Long back, around six months ago I hauled from Coastal Scents, but the tight schedule which comes with being a mom barred me from reviewing this  :), as it is going to be a considerably long post . My passion for makeup started with my blog, and for long I wanted to own a full range makeup brush set. Since, Coastal scents has a good name when it comes to beauty tools, I thought to invest in this.

The set comprises of twelve brushes which are very soft and easy to handle. If you are a beginner, you should definitely reserve some thoughts for this. I washed them twice, and did not notice any shedding of bristles. Overall, I am happy ūüôā All the brushes have long handles and have a total length of eight inches.

To explain the brushes elaborately , Please excuse me as some of the brushes require a wash.

1) Powder Brush:  The brush has a big round fluffy head. The bristles are very soft and they pick sufficient amount of powder and can be easily swiped all over the face to achieve that matte flawless look.

2) Contour/ Blush Brush: This is an angled brush, which can be used to contour as well as apply blush. The bristles are soft and enable a neat and smooth application.

3) Foundation Brush: This is a flat foundation brush. It enables effortless blending of liquid foundation.

4) Flat Eyeshadow Brush: It is a flat eye shadow applicator brush, with very soft bristles. This is pretty decent, but I feel it is too large and covers a considerable area of the eye lid at a time. Owing to this, it is difficult to cater to the details.

5) Crease Brush: This is a ideal brush for blending and creating smokey eyes. This has the ideal girth and pointed end, which make it an ideal detailing brush too.

6) Doe-foot Eye shadow brush: Again great for applying and blending eye shadow, all over the lid. I use this when I have to apply a single eye shadow and blend.

7) Concealer Brush: It is a flat detail brush, which can be used to apply concealer and do minor corrections, if required. The texture of this is stiffer than the previous ones.

8) Bent Brush: Great for application of gel-liners .

9) Small detail brush: It is similar to the concealer brush, except that it has shorter bristles.

10) Angled brushed: This is a must have in any brush collection. It can be used to apply eye liner, fill up brows etc. The texture of this is stiffer than previous brushes, but it is soft enough not to tug or pull the lids.

11) Lash/ brow Comb: Just as the name goes, it is pretty clear:) . I find this pretty useless.

12) Lip Brush: This is a great lip brush. The bristles are soft and the design of the brush makes, application of lipsticks a dream.

To pick my favorites of the lot, the Angled Brush, Lip Brush , Crease Brush and the Contour/ blush Brush are my most loved ones.

Price: I bought it at 50% discount from Coastal Scents Website during a sale. I paid $ 8.99 for the brush set. Also teh shipping charges shall amount to $ 14.

Summary: Whether a beginner or a Pro, I guess these brushes would do justice ūüôā If you could grab this on a sale, this would be the icing on your cake!

Product Score: 4.5/5 , availability is an issue as they can only be bought from Coastal Scents website.

My Latest Haul From Coastal Scents

I have always wanted to own a Coastal Scents brush set, not to mention the good name of their tools in the virtual world. So, during the recent Black Friday sale, I placed an order with them after a lot of struggle with their then jerky website due to over load of users trying to avail the sale.

So I ordered the following items:

  1.  A 12 piece brush set
  2. A Empty 12 hot pot palette
  3. One hot pot – shade “edgy eggplant”
  4. The pink hot pot came as a free gift.

As of now only the pictures. I am highly impressed by their service. Each of the items, reached safe and also within 10 days of ordering. I am really impressed.

The Make-Up Brushes, I Generally Use

I have been thinking about doing a post on makeup brushes since quite a while . These brushes are collected over a period of time. I was not much into eye make up until I started my blog, but even then I  had a few eye make up brushes, all of which are about a year old.  All of my brushes are bought singly, at random shopping escapades and I do aspire to order a sigma brush set or a Coastal Scents one soon :).

1. The Foundation Brush : The brush I use is a basic liquid foundation brush from a brand called “Ebelin”, bought from Germany. Its a pretty decent brush, with soft bristles, which help in smooth blending of liquid foundation. Also, its washable and I have washed it many times without any loss of bristles. I took its snap after washing, so the pic look bit weird.

2. The Blush Brush : The blush brush I am using is from Dubai, a brand called “Editors Picks”, Its pretty decent, helps in applying the blush effortlessly and also picks up very little amount so that I do not go overboard. ¬†Sorry, its looking dirty with all the blush on it ūüė¶

3. The Eye Brushes : The first two brushes from the left are flat shader brushes. The first one is from Faces and the second is from a German brand called “For your Beauty”. I own two flat shader brushes from Faces.

I love both of them, very convenient and easy to use. The third brush, that is the tallest one here, is a blending brush from Oriflame, which is not that good, it has a very long handle, which I find difficult to use. The Purple brush is a crease brush from Essence which I adore, very useful for smokey eye looks.

4. The Angled eye brush and the lip brush : Both the brushes are from Vega. They are good for beginners actually. I do not like the lip brush much as it feels very hard on the lips. The angled brush is decent as per the price its comes for though some of the bristles get disintegrated with use.

Do share your thoughts on your favourite brushes ! Hope you liked reading my post ūüôā
