Make-Up Bits and Bytes : Eye-Shadows and Their Types

I shall emphasize on the various types of eye shadows available in the market in this post. Eye Shadows are color pigments applied to accentuate the eyes, and also try to cover imperfections if any, so we have various types of application processes when it comes to eye shadows based on the shape and appearance of eyes.

I shall do a separate post on eye make-up application.

Cream Eye-Shadows: Cream eye shadows can be used all by itself or in conjunction with other eye shadows. They can be used as all over base to intensify the make-up look and also, to make it last longer. They might come packed in tubs, pots, tubes etc. Cream eye shadows can have a dewy, glossy or frosty appearance. Mostly, cream eye shadows come in water resistant formulations.

Cream to Powder: They are basically creamy and turn to dry finish moments after application.

Gel: They are packed in glass pots and can be used as a liner as well as a base. They tend to dry quickly, glide easily and are long lasting. Often, they are used as based in intense smoky eye looks. They also come as eye glosses, which are in gel formulations and lend a wet appearance to eye shadows.

Liquid: They are thick liquid in consistency and come with attached wand or brush for application in a tube.

Loose Powders: They are high in color pigment concentration and can be used wet or dry. They tend to be messy and it is advised to do the eye make-up before the application of face make-up to ensure a neat look.

Pencils or Pens: They are highly pigmented with frosty or sheer finish. They might be water-proof, and come in a pencil form and need sharpen

Make-Up Bits and Bytes : Concealers in Make-up Art

 Concealers in Make-up Art

So, I realize it every Friday that time flies away … really .. I am going to talk about concealers today .

Concealers as they are named are meant to cover up flaws in the skin such as dark spots, discolorations, scars, under eye dark circles, puffiness etc. Their composition is heavier than foundations and are available in liquid, cream, packaged in tubes, pots , bottles etc. Concealers that are highly pigmented can provide unexpected coverage to cover up even the tattoos on skin. The concealers need to be blended properly into the skin and can be used by itself or along with foundations.

Concealers for face can be used under or over foundations depending upon the type of foundation applied on the skin. If the foundation is a powder foundation or something with less moisture content, it is advised to use the concealer underneath, while in case of a liquid or cream foundation, they are best applied over.

Some renowned brand names when it comes to concealers include Ben Nye, Kryolan Dermacolor, YSL Touche Eclat etc… Also, MAC has some good concealers.

The concealers for the under eye area are best when they are creamy in texture with light to medium pigmentation. This is because the skin around the eye is delicate and sensitive, hence the product also ought to be chosen with care. If the concealer is too heavy, it would lead to pulling and tugging of the delicate skin leading to premature wrinkles. It is imperative to choose a shade lighter when it comes to selection of under eye concealers. In case, you are using a stick concealer, ensure that you apply the pigment with your finger tips from the stick rather than direct application.

Lotus Natural Blend 4 in 1 Swift Makeup Stick Review

This product has been used my me so many times, yet so much of it is left and I am about to throw this away ! Why???????

Its expired!

This is much similar to the “BB Stick” , I reviewed few days back, at least when it comes to the packaging. The review is different from my usual way of writing :). The shade I bought is ” Honey Beige”.

It applies hassle free, just swipe all over the face and blend , so that it disappears into the skin. This one gives moderate coverage to hide mild under eye rings and spots, which is more than the BB Stick. The best use that I put it to is to prime my eyelids with it. This is an awesome Primer, and makes eye makeup last on and on…..

Also, I adore the dewy look it gives to my skin after application, though Oily skinned beauties might find it oily. So, it is advised to careful before using this.

Price: INR 250

Summary: A decent product fit for daily wear , best bought if you do not require much coverage. A very good eye lid primer though, provided your lids are not oily. It might feel greasy on very oily skin.

Product Score: 3.5/5
