Make-Up Bits and Bytes : Eye-Shadows and Their Types

I shall emphasize on the various types of eye shadows available in the market in this post. Eye Shadows are color pigments applied to accentuate the eyes, and also try to cover imperfections if any, so we have various types of application processes when it comes to eye shadows based on the shape and appearance of eyes.

I shall do a separate post on eye make-up application.

bronze-godess1

Cream Eye-Shadows: Cream eye shadows can be used all by itself or in conjunction with other eye shadows. They can be used as all over base to intensify the make-up look and also, to make it last longer. They might come packed in tubs, pots, tubes etc. Cream eye shadows can have a dewy, glossy or frosty appearance. Mostly, cream eye shadows come in water resistant formulations.

Cream to Powder: They are basically creamy and turn to dry finish moments after application.

Gel: They are packed in glass pots and can be used as a liner as well as a base. They tend to dry quickly, glide easily and are long lasting. Often, they are used as based in intense smoky eye looks. They also come as eye glosses, which are in gel formulations and lend a wet appearance to eye shadows.

Liquid: They are thick liquid in consistency and come with attached wand or brush for application in a tube.

Loose Powders: They are high in color pigment concentration and can be used wet or dry. They tend to be messy and it is advised to do the eye make-up before the application of face make-up to ensure a neat look.

Pencils or Pens: They are highly pigmented with frosty or sheer finish. They might be water-proof, and come in a pencil form and need sharpen

Sigma Make-up Eye Shadow “muse” swatch and review

I got this as a complementary sample from sigma and love this shade for its texture and superb pigmentation. A great eye shadow if you are fine with its price 🙂

The shade: It is a beautiful matte grey with fine silver speckles, and works great as a crease shade and also complements some colors like pink, orange and turquoise beautifully.

The pigmentation, lasting and texture: Great and almost opaque in one swipe. Love it for this and stays put for up to five to six hours . The blend-ability is impeccable and is very smooth to apply .

The only con I feel is , it stains badly if you are not careful with its application. It requires neat hands for a epitome effect 🙂

MNY , Maybelline New York Eye shadow swatches

I am just swatching these eye shadows, the names of which I unfortunately do not remember. It doesn’t have the names or numbers printed on its body. This range of Maybelline, is widely available in Europe. I love them , be it their nail paints , eye shadows or blushes, they all rock! Amazing quality, finish, texture at a lucrative price tag 🙂

The eye shadows swatched here have great texture, pigmentation, lasting and finish without any fallouts. They are priced at just two euros. If you are in Europe/Americas and happen to spot them , do not forget to haul on them.

Hope it is launched in India soon!

Maybelline Color Tattoo “Bad to the Bronze” Review and Swatches, FOTD

True to the name, these cream eye shadows does get tattooed on to your skin. I really had a tough time taking it off, and ultimately had to use a make up remover. These are must have and there is a shade to suit everyone’s taste. I have two from this range and love them to the “T”. Read my review of the shade “fierce and tangy” here.

The Color: A bronze taupe, shall suit across complexions and occasions. A must have from this range.

The texture and pigmentation: Awesome ! It is very smooth and silky and is best applied with the tip of index finger. I find the finish of this particular shade smoother than the orange one. It is insanely pigmented and can be built up according to ones taste. A total value for money, Maybelline has nailed it!

The lasting: Stayed on me without budging for eight hours 🙂 Though I have not worn it for 24 hours, but, it is quite long lasting.

IMG_0824

My Verdict: I am very much happy with these color tattoos 🙂 They are  cheap, long lasting, easy to use and great for beginners, as they apply best with fingertips. One should own at least oneof these. This in particular is versatile and a must have for all. The only issue I find with this is that it has to be blended with quick hands else it dries up very fast.

The shade “bad to the bronze” is my most reached out eye shadow shade whenever I am in a hurry 🙂 A great shade, which would complement western wear and Indian ethnic wear equally.

Price: INR 350

Product Score: 4.5/5

And this is how it looks on me 🙂 I have applied it all over the eyelid and finished off with kohl and mascara.

This palette had been left unbought and waiting in my lust list for long, until Agnibanya of http://agnibanya.blogspot.in/ , told me that she plans to place an order with Sleekmakeup.com, in a jiffy I joined in :). Yes, I absolutely do not regret this hasty decision of mine ! I also ordered two of their blushes, which I would review on the coming days.

The shades : A palette comprising of, twelve eye shadows fit for doing smokey eye looks and two excellent highlighting shades.

The texture and pigmentation: Amazing pigmentation and color depth , soft and hassle free. They are easy to pat and blend. Most of the eye shadows are metallic finish which shimmers.

The lasting: Lasts long upto four hours without primer, do I need to explain more?

The packaging: Come in a sleek palette, which is sturdy and travel friendly but the brush that comes with it is pretty useless.

My experience: Yes , I would buy it again and again, if it gets over. One stop for all intense, smokey eye looks. The shade selection comprises of deep blues, purples and deep jungle greens, though some shades look similar. It has a jet bllack eye shadow called “Noir” , which is really black and very versatile , long lasting as well. So those who are in the quest for deep black Eye shadows, do keep this in mind.

The colors can be mixed and matched to create a lot of looks. I am totally satisfied and its indeed value for money. If you get a chance to share the shipping costs with someone, do plunge in.

An Attempt at Cut Crease Eye Makeup – Bronze Gold with Black

A look which I did after ages . I am currently having lot of issues with my laptop, the important keys like “a”, “l”, “s” etc are not working and I am really having a difficult time battling those. Whenever I get my hubby’s laptop free, I try to blog or browse the net. Though I browse with my mobile, but I do not find it handy when typing or writing long posts are concerned. Hope you understand 🙂 . Anyways, let us go ahead with the look.

I tried doing the cut-crease eye makeup, which is having extra defined crease. The demarcation should be visible. Please have a look and do give in your inputs on this.

Things Used:

  1. Coastal Scents hotpot called “amber bronze”
  2. Jordana Matte black ES called “total blackout”
  3. Maybelline gel liner in black
  4. Essence multiaction mascara

Here are the snaps of the look 🙂 Hope you like it !

Coastal Scents Hotpot S39/ Peachy Copper Review, Swatches

This is another of the hotpots that I have, a pretty peachy copper shade as the name goes :).

If you want to see the swatches of all the hot hot pots that I have visit this link: http://celebratingfeminity.com/2012/11/29/coastal-scents-hotpot-swatches/

The Shade and texture: A  pinkish peachy shade which has golden shimmers, which look chunky, but lends a satin finish upon blending. A wearable shade  and easy to carry off. Its heavily pigmented and a light swipe picks a lot of color but it falls off to a great extent. Owing to this,  its difficult to work with and makes the makeup process quite messy. So When I use this, I do the eye makeup first and then follow up with the face makeup, which means I do the base also after being over with the eye makeup.

The pigmentation: Its heavily pigmented. A light swipe picks a lot of color.

The Lasting: It lasts for three hours on  me without budging when used with a primer. Without primer, I would not recommend to use this.

My say: I am happy with this shade. This is a really pretty shade which is great for Indian wear and bridal makeup. Looks good all by itself and also when paired with gold, purple, brown etc. Quite similar to the shade expensive pink from MAC, but the quality is inferior likewise , it falls off a lot.

download

Price: $2 at their website

Summary: Worth the price as per the quality. Worth buying only for the shade or color. The cons are it falls off to a great extent which makes it difficult to deal with and non availability in India.

Product Score: 3.5/5
