Lakme Clean Up Face Mask Clear Pores Review

I happened to purchase this by mistake , instead of the scrub from this range, I picked this up and when I reached home, I realized my folly ūüôā . This face mask is a part of the lakme skin range suited to oily and acne prone skin.

The Look: A very smooth textured clay mask, that spreads evenly and smoothly all over the face.

The Smell: Very fresh smell, nothing pervasive.

My experience: Actually, this is a dud ! I did not like the way it feels on the skin. I have oily acne prone skin and it seems to clean well, but otherwise renders no effect on my complexion. It doesn’t reduce zits or black heads either, and reduces oiliness to some extent. I do not have good words for this product and feel, that I have wasted my money on it. Also, I feel it contains a lot of chemicals.

I do not recommend it !

Neutrogena UltraSheer Dry Touch Sunblock SPF50+ Review

A great sunscreen! A potion that works ! Oh, I am smitten over ………..yes , finally a sunscreen that I look forward to stick on to ūüôā

DSC_0021

DSC_0026

The Look : A thick white cream, which spreads and blends into the skin with ease.

The Texture: Though it is thick , it blends into the skin effortlessly¬† revealing a glowing facial skin. Yes, it does impart a shine to the skin on application, which I like. The skin appears to glow from within and , it doesn’t look like a white cast.

The Smell: Very mild floral smell.

My Take: Finally I found a sunscreen that works on my skin. It protects the skin from tanning and the result is miraculous. I have been wearing it to my swimming exercise for over 15 days and I could actually see the difference.  To put it to test, I went with bare face for two days and was badly tanned, which made me realize that it was the sunscreen that prevented my skin from being tanned. It did not have any adverse reactions on my skin and makes the skin feel light and easy. Also, it is water proof and is ideal for sweaty summers and for beach vacations, it would act like a protective shield against tanning.

Highly Recommended ! Protects the skin from harmful rays of the sun.  This would suit all skin types, though oily skin types might find their skin more shiny after its usage.

Olay Total Effects 7-in-1Anti-aging Foaming Cleanser Review

This is a holy grail product for me, and I have been using this for about¬† six months.¬† Somehow, the name “olay” evokes a sense of calm and mildness in itself and I just love their products. Few years ago, I came across an article in Femina, where Bollywood diva Rekha, mentioned the usage of¬† “oil of olay” as the secret to her beautiful skin.

DSC_0020

DSC_001

The look: A thick creamy face wash, that is white in color.

The Smell: Very much Olay like, mild and soothing.

My Take: A very good face wash for all skin types ūüôā and I absolutely recommend it. I have been using this twice a day and it renders a scrupulously soft and glowing skin after each wash.¬† A very little amount works up a good amount of lather and it effectively removes all traces of make-up. It doesn’t dry out the skin and at the same time cleans the skin perfectly.

Pros:

  1. suitable for all skins
  2. Moisturizing
  3. Doesn’t dry the skin
  4. Smells Good
  5. Removes make up
  6. Can be used all year round
  7. The skin feels taut and squeaky clean

Cons:

  • I could not think of any.

Make-Up Bits and Bytes : Primer and its use

                                                                                            Primer and its use

I kick off the series with a descriptive post on Primers . So, for the readers who came across this term for the first time, Primer is a cosmetic component of Face Make-Up items, which basically sets the make-up or can be considered as the primitive step of the entire process of doing make-up.

Description :

Also, known as foundation primers, the basic functions of a primer include :-

  1. Primers even out the skin particularly its texture
  2. Helps in flawless application of make-up
  3. The make-up appears smooth and fine
  4. Increases the longevity of the make-up
  5. Protects the underlying skin

Most of the primers contain silicones as their main ingredient and they help in filling up scars, wrinkles, fine lines, pores etc. They are applied before foundation and are best dabbed into the skin with clean finger tips and ought not rubbed into the skin. Also, Primers need to be selected keeping in mind the skin type to yield best results.

Some of the well known Primers Brands are –

  • Smashbox
  • MUFE
  • MAC
  • FaceIt – a Korean Brand
  • Laura Mercier
  • Elf
  • NYX
  • Colorbar
  • Loreal etc ……….

This is what I had to share of my  knowledge on Primers and I hope you have some takeaways from it :). Please share your thoughts, doubts, criticisms and any additional information in the comment section and let us make this discussion fruitful :).

Cheers,

Tanmayee.

Olay Total Effects Cream+Serum Duo SPF15 Review

The terms, Anti-aging, age reversal, look younger etc.. does arouse its due share of¬†curiosity¬†in us ūüôā After all, all of us aspire to look younger and beautiful. As in, a random comment, ¬†“Oh! you look much younger your age” … is perceived as a compliment.

The giant in this sector of beauty market is Olay and I am here to review one of its recently launched products ūüôā

IMG_0658

IMG_0660

The Look: Very creamy, thick emulsion, which is cream in color as well. The appearance from outside is as if the content is swirls of cream and white mousse.

The texture: Very light and¬†moderately¬†moisturizing. It should suit all skin types, my skin is combination to oily , but it didn’t make my skin feel greasy or break me out. I guess, in hot humid weather it might feel greasy or oily. So, people with oily skin should use it with care in summers.

The aroma: Nice, mild , Olay kind of ūüôā

IMG_0667 IMG_0662

My thoughts : I have been using for the past twelve days, twice daily, once in the morning and at night. According to me it is moisturizing enough and gets absorbed into the skin effortlessly, to transform into a subtle glow. It gives a mild dewy look, which I like. It did not break me out or make me feel greasy.

It claims to work on seven signs of ageing like fine lines, uneven tone, age spots, uneven texture, dryness, dullness and pores. To scale it on the previous parameters, it relieves dryness,¬†that is, it keeps the skin hydrated and also addresses dullness to a great extent. It moderately evens out the skin tone too. But, on age spots it didn’t have any effect. I have two very small age spots on my face, and I religiously monitored its effect on them, to find that they didn’t lighten. I don’t have any wrinkles, so its difficult to comment on this aspect.

Summary: So, overall a good cream which can be used as a day as well as night cream. It does keep the skin hydrated without making it greasy, but still, people with oily skin should use it with care. It also has SPF 15, which is a good aspect as well. The cons, it did not lighten age spots at all, but may be with continuous usage for about a month or two, they might lighten.

Also, any skincare item takes at least a month to show its effect, but I had to review it within a very short span. Hence, I may not be able to justify the product.

Cosmedic LumiDay Brightening Day Lotion SPF30 Review

Finally I am reviewing a lotion, which I have been using for past two months with the hope that it would show some results as per its claims. So my review is up , and lets prod on to see how it fared according to me.

Apply liberally to face and neck after cleansing daily.

Caution:

IMG_6056 IMG_6057

My Take on the Product:

The Look: It is a not so runny, decently thick while colored lotion.

The Texture: It tends to leave a film on skin, so needs some time to get absorbed by the skin.

The Smell: Smells fruity kind of , I like the smell.

This could be an ideal daily moisturizer, leaves a subtle glow after its use. Though I have oily-combination skin, it did not break me out, but I would warn oily skinned ladies to use it with caution. This is because, it is very much moisturizing , hence better used by oily skinned people during winters. The skin does not tan after its usage. Though it claims to works on spots and marks, I tried hard , used it for more than two months but I am sorry to mention, they were not visible. I have a couple of pigmented spots near my left eye socket, but it did not lighten them at all.

The Price: INR 450 for 60 ml bottle

IMG_6059

IMG_6060

To sum up the positive and negative aspects:

Positives:

  1. Moisturizing and keeps skin hydarated
  2. Ideal day moisturizer for normal to dry skinned ladies
  3. I like the smell
  4. Keeps tan at bay to great extent, I was out in the sun for about two hours after using this, but I did not tan.
  5. Imparts a temporary glow to skin after its use

Negatives:

  1. It does not lighten spots etc, as it has claimed.
  2. No brightening effect visible
  3. Might be oily for oily skinned beauties.

Summary: I guess, this is a good daily moisturizer and sunscreen lotion rather than a brightening one. I recommend it to  normal to dry skins, but it did not break me out inspite of my skin being oily. Unfortunately, it did not work on the spots and I could not notice any lightening properties.

Product Score: 3.5/5

Lakme Sun Expert Fairness Lotion SPF 24 Review

Sunscreens, actually has become an¬†in disposable¬†component¬†in modern day skin care , with Lakme making the¬†advent in mid nineties ūüôā . I still remember the creamy white bottle with orange inscriptions, then my mother bought it for her and my curiosity got the better of me and even I started using that.

Now, when the market is populated with varieties of sunscreens, I make it a point to change my sunscreen every six months. In one of these pursuits, I bought this and this is pretty decent though the SPF level is on the lower side.

IMG_1992

The color: A thick white emulsion

The aroma: Very fresh cucumber like smell.

My experience: It is a decent sunscreen, which is not oily and gives a nice matte finish to the skin. Also it adheres to the skin forming a layer, which cannot be felt. I realized this effect when I washed my face within an hour of application, that i saw it wearing off. Though if you wash after a long time, you cannot see it ! My only concern is the low SPF. The claim of fairness is not exactly true, it does seem to add some glow , but fairness ?? tall claim!

It does not leave any whitish cast and gets absorbed completely into the skin. The only pull back aspect is once again, Low SPF !

IMG_1993

IMG_1994

Price: INR 180 for 200 ml

Summary: Decent sunscreen, great for all skin types. Does not makes the skin greasy or oily and the skin looks bright and glowing . The con I feel is the low SPF rating.

Product Score: 3.5/5

NYX Powder Blush “Mocha” Review and Swatches

NYX  is a reputed name when it comes to drugstore brands, for they make a wide range of cosmetics which justify both quality and shade selection.  The blushes are of great quality and totally apt for the price they come for. They are best bought from http://www.cherryculture.com .

The Shade: A neutral dusty pink

The Texture: Very smooth compressed powder, a little amount is more than enough. The finish is matte and gives a very natural flush to the cheeks.

The Pigmentation: Awesome, lasts really really long on prepared face. I mean on top of a base.

The packaging: Sturdy and easy to carry

My experience: It is really pigmented and very little amount is required to light up the face. This is my most used blush as it gives a natural flushed look to face and is very good for daily wear. I would say, this is a must buy if you get a chance to stock on some NYX stuffs. It lasts really long on prepared face and without base it lasts easily for up to four hours, depending upon the skin type and weather.

Price: $ 4.99 from cherry culture on sale

Summary: Must buy! Would suit all. Great texture, finish, color and pigmentation. Also very good for daily wear. The con I feel is its availability.

Product Score: 4.5/5

I have worn this here  !

Maybelline “BB Stick” Review, Swatches and How to Apply!

My Last blog post left you reading, speculating, or may be musing about the newly launched BB Stick, by Maybelline. To read the product specification, please visit this link:

http://celebratingfeminity.com/2013/03/01/maybelline-presents-the-bb-stick/

I received the product for review the day before yesterday and I just could not wait to try this :). It comes packed in the form of a bullet stick, which is very much similar to the Lotus Natural Blend 4 in 1 makeup stick. Only two shades are launched in this range, they sent me the shade “Fawn” which I felt is very much suited to my NC42 skin tone.

download (24)

The Shade: “Fawn”, a golden beige color , which would suit most of the Indian skin medium skin tones.

The Texture:  Very soft and silky, one is left with a airbrushed kind of feeling. It is moisturizing and does not feel overtly oily on my oily-combination skin. Blends easily and is very light on skin. I guess it might be oily for people with very oily skin, especially in summers.

download (20) download (1)

The Lasting: Lasted on me for an evening out, that is for about five hours. I cannot comment more on this because, I wore it only for the mentioned time period only.

The coverage: Medium, it is something which would lend a very natural look, and is n ideal daily wear product. It would not cater to those seeking heavier coverage.

The aroma: Nothing overbearing.

download (22)

download (19)

My Experience: I am impressed with its performance, this one is really good, apt to its nomenclature “BB Stick”.

It does, smooth out the overall persona¬†of skin and minimize the appearance of pores to a great extent. The shade “Fawn” disappears into my skin to give me a very natural look, and at the same time covers minor flaws. Overall, a great product, especially for working women and students. The coverage is medium, it would not cover major imperfections.

Those who are concerned regarding the shade, I guess this particular shade would suit skin tones, above MAC NC 40. It is not so heavy in texture and very easy to blend, hence it easily disappears into the skin without any patches or un-uniformity.

Below, I have explained on its application procedure. I have applied this on bare moisturized face. Some product has stained my lips, sorry for that !

To apply, twist out the stick and swipe all over your face. Horizontally on the the forehead, on the bridge of nose, on the cheeks outwards and around the mouth.

Positives:

  1. Blends easily and gives natural finish.
  2. Disappears into skin, without any patches
  3. Moisturizing
  4. Feels light on skin
  5. Ideal for working women  and daily wear
  6. Covers minor imperfections and reduces pores to a great extent

Negatives:

  1. Might be oily for oily skinned beauties
  2. Shade selection is small

Price: INR 250, which I feel is justified!

Summary: A great base to cement your make-up with, Go for it!!
