Maybelline Dream LumiTouch Highlighing Concealer Review

This has become an indispensable part of my make-up regimen, for it conceals and brightens in one step. I have been using this for last three months and I feel, it is worth the adulation. A great product at a great price.

The look : A creamy emulsion that comes in a pen dispenser form. The back of the pen has to be pressed to eject the content. The applicator brush that comes attached with it, helps in precise application, then it can be blended to cover and highlight. The shade name is “buff”

The Smell: Not bothersome.

The pigmentation : Well, it provides medium coverage and covers minor flaws. If you need very high coverage, this product is not for you.

How it works: It works as a great eye and under eye area concealer, and also as a good eye primer. After applying the foundation, I apply it around my eye socket and blend it in, also around the corners of the mouth and nose. It does not have any conspicuous glitter or high shine, and imparts a very naturally emanating glow. One cannot expect it to cover major acne marks and blemishes. It is a product tailored made for skin that does not require much coverage.

Highly Recommended ! It is a holy grail product for me, and I shall buy it again 🙂

  1. Decent highlighter
  2. Not glittery and artificial
  3. Imparts a natural glow
  4. Works as a great eye primer
  5. Brightens the under eye area and also corners of nose and mouth
  6. Not harsh on skin

  1. Not for high coverage requirements
  2. limited Shades available

Price: INR 475 for 1.5 ml

Product Score: 4/5

pr sample. honest review.

Make-Up Bits and Bytes : Concealers in Make-up Art

 Concealers in Make-up Art

So, I realize it every Friday that time flies away … really .. I am going to talk about concealers today .

Concealers as they are named are meant to cover up flaws in the skin such as dark spots, discolorations, scars, under eye dark circles, puffiness etc. Their composition is heavier than foundations and are available in liquid, cream, packaged in tubes, pots , bottles etc. Concealers that are highly pigmented can provide unexpected coverage to cover up even the tattoos on skin. The concealers need to be blended properly into the skin and can be used by itself or along with foundations.

Concealers for face can be used under or over foundations depending upon the type of foundation applied on the skin. If the foundation is a powder foundation or something with less moisture content, it is advised to use the concealer underneath, while in case of a liquid or cream foundation, they are best applied over.

Some renowned brand names when it comes to concealers include Ben Nye, Kryolan Dermacolor, YSL Touche Eclat etc… Also, MAC has some good concealers.

The concealers for the under eye area are best when they are creamy in texture with light to medium pigmentation. This is because the skin around the eye is delicate and sensitive, hence the product also ought to be chosen with care. If the concealer is too heavy, it would lead to pulling and tugging of the delicate skin leading to premature wrinkles. It is imperative to choose a shade lighter when it comes to selection of under eye concealers. In case, you are using a stick concealer, ensure that you apply the pigment with your finger tips from the stick rather than direct application.

Two other previous post on primers and foundations in this series are HERE and HERE .

So, please free to share your thoughts and inputs on the same 🙂 .

By the way , Happy Weekend ……

Reader Query: Suggestion For A Good Base Makeup

Pinky asks………………..

“hi tanmayee…am pinky from Hyderabad…I need your help…my skin tone is little dusky(not so dark)…I need your suggestion for a good foundation and compact which perfectly blends my skin…I use maybelline bb cream(nude) which suits me but it doesnt stay for a long time…pls dooo reply..”

Pinky , thanks for the query 🙂

If budget is not a constraint for you, you could try the MAC Studio Fix Powder plus Foundation. Also, if your skin is not extremely dry, the studio fix powder is the best bet. It lasts long and gives good coverage. The price: INR 1800, but one pan would last really long.

Some good products on budget would be the Maybelline “Dream Matte Mousse Airbrush Finish” Foudation, which is reviewed on my blog. This lasts long and only a little quantity gives you enough coverage. Also, the Maybelline “BB stick” is a great bet topped with Rimmel “Lasting Finish Stay Matte” compact.

Also, your skin type matters here and do not forget to cleanse and moisturize your skin prior Make-up application. A good moisturizer suited to your skin works best.

Hope it helps and any more queries, do leave it in the comments….. 🙂

Lotus Natural Blend 4 in 1 Swift Makeup Stick Review

This product has been used my me so many times, yet so much of it is left and I am about to throw this away ! Why???????

Its expired!

This is much similar to the “BB Stick” , I reviewed few days back, at least when it comes to the packaging. The review is different from my usual way of writing :). The shade I bought is ” Honey Beige”.

It applies hassle free, just swipe all over the face and blend , so that it disappears into the skin. This one gives moderate coverage to hide mild under eye rings and spots, which is more than the BB Stick. The best use that I put it to is to prime my eyelids with it. This is an awesome Primer, and makes eye makeup last on and on…..

Also, I adore the dewy look it gives to my skin after application, though Oily skinned beauties might find it oily. So, it is advised to careful before using this.

Price: INR 250

Summary: A decent product fit for daily wear , best bought if you do not require much coverage. A very good eye lid primer though, provided your lids are not oily. It might feel greasy on very oily skin.

Product Score: 3.5/5

Makeup Must Haves for Brides To Be, on a Budget!

With the wedding season here, I thought of posting about some basic makeup must haves for every bride who is on a budget.

So let me move on with the write-up ! In this post, I shall concentrate on only the products, the sequel to this shall have on how to go about doing the make-up.

The most important aspect of a flawless makeup is a flawless base, it makes 50% of the work done.

  1. Maybelline dream mousse liquid foundation, airbrush finish. This is one of the best foundations I came across recently. It photographs really well and covers up the blemishes of the face. If you have a fairly good skin, this would work wonders. Lakme Absolute foundation also has good reviews.
  2. Lotus Natural Blend 4 in 1 make-up stick, a good concealer and also acts as an excellent eye lid primer.
  3. The Maybelline BB Stick , it really makes the face glow, reduces pores and acts as a excellent base.
  4. To choose a primer, we have very few brands on budget on this category. You can use the Oriflame primer or the Coloressence one, both are decent. Else there is another way to create a smooth base, about which I shall discuss in my next post on this category.
  5. A good moisturizer, I find neutrogena oil free moisturizer really good or baby lotion.
  6. Lakme Perfect Radiance Compact.

To add that natural flush to the face, a must have in every bride’s vanity.

  1. Lakme Baked blushes from the Absolute Range. Also Colorbar blushes in shades “Peachy Rose” or ” Fuschia”. Otherwise Lakme regular blushes in shades “Rose Crushed” and “Just Ginger”
  2. Lakme Moonlit Highlighter for highlighting purpose.
  3. Colorbar Illuminating pen is really good, if you get this, it would be a steal.

Eye Shadows, Mascara and Kohl:

For those beautiful peepers 🙂

  1. Lakme Eye Quartet in “Desert Rose”, though some amount of fall out is there, still it is good. A palette purely for brides. Also Faces stackables or the single eye shadows. Also, Colorbar has some great singles like “expensive pink”, “spicy copper” etc.
  2. Maybelline Gel liner in “black”, one product and all your lining, tighting issues are sorted.
  3. Lakme eyeconic Kajal
  4. Colored eye pencils from Faces or Colorbar could be given a try if you are open to experimenting.
  5. Maybelline Collosal Volume Mascara.
  6. An angled brush , Vega has a really good one. It helps in lining and filling out eyebrows.
  7. Lakme eyebrow pencil.

Here I have listed a combination of light abd dark shades. You could check out the swatches and then decide :).

  1. Maybelline Colorsenstional in “Pleasure Me Red“.
  2. Lakme Absolute in “Classic Rose”
  3. Colorbar Velevet matte lipstick in “hot hot hot”, “oh my magenta”.
  4. Lakme liplove lipstick in “aphrodite blush” or “rose kissed” for daily wear.
  5. Revlon Colorburst Lipstick in “True red” or “Fuchsia”
  6. Revlon Colorburst lip gloss in “amethyst” and “iced coffee”
  7. Maybelline Colorsenational lipgloss in “hooked on pink” and “totally toffee”.
  8. Maybelline liquid diamonds lipgloss in clear or transparent.

Vega brush set and singles are quite good on a budget.

Hope this is helpful and gives some clues to brides on the look out for make=up on budget without compromising on quality. If you have furthur queries, do feel free to email me :).

Oriflame Very Me “Peach Me Perfect ” Tinted Moisturizer Review

I have never tried Oriflame products until this which comes in a small and cute little tube. It looks bigger in the pictures than it actually is.  Recently, one of my friend’s beacame an Oriflame representative and I got this from her. Along with this, I got the Oriflame foot scrub, the blending brush, and the nude eye kohl. So, the review of these are coming up next, stay tuned :).

The Product : Oriflame Very Me “Peach Me Perfect” Tinted Moisturizer

The shade, texture, coverage: I got the shade “Dark” which suits my medium complexion beautifully. It just disappears on my skin giving a sheer dewy glow. It is kind of drying fast, needs to be applied with quick hands.

Its good for daily wear, as it gives very sheer coverage. It shall not cover dark circles or other blemishes, after all its a tinted moistirizer 🙂 . One thing which I do not really like about it is that it has shimmers in it, though very fine and almost obscure. When blended one can see very micro glitters here and there. Over all its a good decent TM, as we hardly have any Indian brand offering good tinted moisturizers. Some might feel it to be priced overtly for the quantity. Oriflame often gives offers on its products, its better to catch hold of them then.

The Swatch below, The right part of the hand from the mid, has the TM and the left side does not have it.

The Price: INR 298 for 30 ml

Summary: A good buy for a tinted moisturizer. Gives a sheer, dewy coverage , good for daily wear. The con I feel is , it has shimmers in it, though very fine and the shade selecton is limited. It has only two shades – light and dark.

Product Score: 3.5/5

NBBN Theme Post: Monsoon Make-up Tips

I came across this quote :

“To be interested in the changing seasons is a happier state of mind than to be hopelessly in love with spring”

I love rain, soaking myself in light drizzles and stamping on poodles, sprinkling the water around.  The thought of monsoon takes me to my childhood days, when playing in the rain would give me utmost happiness whilst my mother policing around, it was not always possible :). So, retrospection apart, my post today deals with tips which would help us stay beautiful even after getting drenched in the rain

Foundation: Avoid the foundation , if you are working and have chances of getting wet. Use a good quality primer which would instantly reduce pores and brighten your face. Clarins makes some good stuffs. Also, its better to use mineral powder foundations/compacts, these wash off without the risk of it being cakey.

Eyes: Use waterproof mascara, but they do bleed sometimes. So the best bet is to use a clear mascara. Avoid eye shadows, else use good quality eye pencils which do not budge. Revlon color stay eye pencils stay on and on even after getting wet.

Blush: Its better to skip it all together, else if you must use, its better to use cream blushes or stick blush and blend them properly.

Lipstick: Ideally a lip liner should be used and then topped with a lipstick. Always use matte lipsticks which do not bleed. Creamy lipsticks should be avoided. Else go for only a lip liner or something like lip ice.

Hair: The tresses should be tied up in a pony tail or braided, if one has long hair. The hair should be washed clean in case they get wet in the rain.
