Make-Up Look Inspired by Aishwarya Rai at Cannes 2014

Following suit, I am also up with my version of the much acclaimed look donned by Aishwarya Rai in the Cannes Film Festival, 2014. Though her outfits were more or less, of the same genre, she did look fabulous enough to mute her critics. The look, which I tried to ape, is the one with green smoky eyes and red lips. Though such a combination is quite bold and is not endorsed much, she managed to pull off the look with elan and as long as, one looks good, I feel nothing can go wrong 🙂

attends amfAR's 21st Cinema Against AIDS Gala Presented By WORLDVIEW, BOLD FILMS, And BVLGARI at Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc on May 22, 2014 in Cap d'Antibes, France.

 Make-Up Breakdown:

Face: Maybelline BB cream with MAC studio fix powder on top. The blush, is NYX “mocha”. I have used the highlighter from Sleek Contour Palette on the bridge of my nose and the high of cheek bones.

Lips: Mixed Maybelline “pleasure me red” along with MAC “Viva Glam I” and applied with a lip brush.

Eyes: I used a metallic dark green eye shadow from Sleek “Bad-girl” palette and blended it with Coastal Scents “Kiwi green” eye shadow. On the crease and corners, I have a deep Grey- black eye shadow. I blended all of them together to achieve the look. I have used black kohl and mascara to complete the look.

I don’t claim the look to be an exact dupe of what she has worn. It is just a humble attempt 🙂 . Do drop in your comments , criticisms and suggestions are welcome 🙂

P2 Cosmetics Matte Deluxe Lipstick “I Kiss you” Review

So, P2 cosmetics is a makeup brand from Germany, which offers quality on reasonable rates. The lipstick I am reviewing has an impeccable texture and finish at a surprisingly low price.

The Shade: A bright tomato red. The bullet appears like Mac “Ruby Woo” but it is a lighter red leaning towards orange.

DSC_0201

The Texture and smell: Very soft and easy gliding unlike most drugstore matte lipsticks. The lips look soft and feel feather light. Also, it does not settle in the fine lines of the lips. The smell is not much appealing and might seem like crayons. I do not find it bothersome though as it disappears after some time.

The Lasting: It lasts without fading for about four hours without any easting or drinking in between, if applied on its own with any prior lip priming.

The Pigmentation: Impeccable! It applies opaque in a single swipe.

Summary: One of the best matte lipsticks out there, that too at a price which is very less for its texture and finish. The only con is its availability.

Price: INR 2.95 Euros

Product Score: 4.5/5, it appears much costly than it actually is 🙂

Winter Make-up Look – Red Lips with Gold Eyes

So, with Christmas around the corner, I thought of doing a warm look  befitting the season 🙂 This is look is quite wearable and can be worn to weddings , parties etc without looking over made-up.

The Eyes: I used three eye shadows for this – gold, deep bronze and black. Lined my eyes with the black eye shadow and finished off with kohl and mascara. The gold and bronze eye shadows are from Coastal Scents and the Black is from Jordana that is “total blackout”. The kohl is Maybelline Colossal Kajal and Mascara is Loreal Volume million Lashes.

The lips: My favourite red lipstick Mac “Ruby Woo” , over faces “true red” lip liner. I always apply this lipstick with a lip brush.

The Blush: Colorbar ‘just earth”

Face Make-up: Mac Studio Fix powder over Maybelline BB cream.

MAC “Russian Red” and “Ruby Woo” Comparison Swatches

I wanted to do this post since long, and today, my kid has been very good and has slept over two hours in the afternoon enabling me to write this post for you all :). These two shades are the most sought after reds from MAC and I suggest every woman should own at least one of these. To say a few words about the shades-

Russian Red: It belongs to the matte finish range of MAC lipsticks and it a blue based red that should suit a wide range of skin tones. It is more opaque than “ruby woo” and easier to carry and wear. I have reviewed it HERE .

Ruby Woo: A vivid tomato red that belongs to the retro matte range of MAC lipsticks. A stark matte finish that feels light on lips and an instant pick me up. This was my first MAC and my favorite red lipstick. I have reviewed it HERE . This is lighter than “russian red” and needs some effort to apply. It is best worn over a red lip liner and applied with a lip brush.

Many people have asked me to do a comparison post of these two lipsticks. I have put in my best to show you the difference in textures and color. Hope you like my effort. I have only mascara and kohl on my eyes and MAC studio fix powder over Garnier BB cream and NYX “mocha” blush on face.

The top two pics " russian red" and the bottom two " ruby woo"

The top two pictures have me wearing  ” Russian Red” and the bottom two ” Ruby Woo”

In the below lip swatches the left top and bottom are of “Russian Red” and the right top and bottom are of “Ruby Woo”

Lakme Enrich Satin 356 Review and Swatches

A dupe for MAC Limited Edition lipstick “Love Goddess” ? An  impulsive buy in fact 🙂 The thought that it was a MAC dupe sent my heart raving for it. Of Late Lakme has been very innovative and trying to introduce new make-up range frequently. I am liking it, after all its our very own Indian Brand, which we have acquaintance with since our girlhood days when we saw our mothers wearing it.

I saw it on  http://www.indianvanitycase.com/ , where CZ mentioned it to be a dupe of the MAC LE lipstick. She has a detailed post on this on her blog.

Did I like it ? You shall know soon :)Sorry, I could not show you how it looks on my NC42 skin , but I hope to do a look with this soon.

The shade : A cool toned red with pink undertones, Ideally a pinkish red . It is no doubt very pretty shade to own.

The texture: Very smooth , it so soft that , it seems to break from the bullet stick. It is with all lipsticks from this range, they are very soft, which I do not like.

The pigmentation: Okay it is really pigmented, but I feel the finish is kind of sheer.

The lasting: Very Poor, goes off in two hours even without leaving a stain. Very poor in this aspect. If one happens to eat in between, you run the risk of ingesting the lipstick 😛

IMG_0563

IMG_0567

My Verdict:A decent budget buy. I feel in the same price block, the Colorbar Velvet matte Range or the Maybelline Moisture Extreme Range is much better in terms of texture, quality, lasting etc. This is lipstick is no doubt a very pretty shade, which is the only good about it infact. Otherwise it I am not impressed by its feel and the lasting.

Summary: A good budget lipstick for college goers and if you are not very particular about the lasting ability. The shade is a very close dupe of MAC “Love Goddess”, so a reason to buy it 🙂

Price: INR 225

Product Score: 3.5/5

MAC “Russian Red” Lipstick Swatch and Review

A cult of red lipsticks and an eternally classic shade from the house of MAC. I have always wanted to own this, not to mention my love for Red Lipsticks 🙂 . When I swatched it in the store, the MUA was all praises for this shade on me and I had to buy it 🙂 .

The Shade: A true red with blue undertones , but it doesn’t wash my NC42 skin tone.  Instantly brightens my face and I do not need anything else on my face.

The Texture: It hails from the “Matte” range of MAC lipsticks. So, Mac has fine tuned the art of making Matte finish lipsticks as it doesn’t dry out the lips and has creamy texture. It is not as matte as Ruby Woo and doesn’t require as much effort to apply. It has a subtle sheen to it and looks very beautiful on lips. So, all matte lovers out there, this is something to look out for.

The Lasting : Lasts for about five hours without budging even with eating and drinking, then gradually fades, in a slow pace, to a stain, which is beautiful.

The Pigmentation: This applies Opaque in a single swipe to cover all lip imperfection, if any 🙂

My Experience: A very very beautiful, classic shade of red, must have according to me. This is not neon as Ruby Woo and is easier to wear and carry. A great shade for Indian Bridal Wear. This can be combined with gloss or sheer golden top coat to make it more appealing. Oh, I am in love ! This looks very good with classic black winged liner look on eyes and subtle hint of a earthy blush. This is great for night as well as day wear, depending on the situation you are wearing it .

The lipstick photograph was taken unused.

Price: INR 990

This is how it looks on me. I have lined my eyes with simple black liner in a winged manner and paired it with Colorbar “Just Earth” blush. On face, I have Mac Studio Fix over Garnier BB Cream. Also, I have a Taupe eye shadow on my lids.

Summary: A very beautiful, cult red which is favorite of Celebrities too. Try it in store and buy it if it suits you 🙂

Product Score: 5/5

Maybelline Superstay 14 Hour Lipstick “Timeless Crimson” Review and Swatches

So this lipstick is up to good these days, with the entire beauty blogosphere raining with rave reviews on it! With around sixteen super staying shades to choose from, do make sure that you catch hold of atleast one of these.

Check out Maybelline New York’s Long Lasting Lipstick here:

download (12)

The Shade: A deep maroonish warm red, crimson in ideal sense 🙂 I guess the recently launched MAC lipstick “Deeply Adored” could come quite close to it.

The Aroma: Fruity smell, I love it!

download (10) download (13)

The Texture: Smooth and easy to apply, doesn’t tug the lips, which some matte finish lipsticks are prone to.

The lasting: Lasted on me for whole day, that it eight hours complete with a meal in between. So, yes it does last 🙂

The Pigmentation: Insane ! Even when applied lightly with a lip brush, gives enough coverage and intensity.

IMG_4991

My Experience: A truly long lasting lipstick, but yes it doesn’t last upto fourteen hours as claimed 🙂 . Frankly, I do not expect my lipsticks to last that long . The texture is smooth and glides on to cover the lips, and one swipe is more than enough. Also, I like the mild fruity aroma it has, though it doesn’t last long after application.

The color is so so beautiful, I love reds , and this is a most wanted addition to my collection 🙂 . It would be a ideal shade for bridal wear as well as for the guests to a wedding :). So, brides do take care to check this out, you might end up wearing it on your D-day.  Also, make sure that it is applied to well prepared and exfoliated lips. This rule applies to all red lipsticks .

Now, coming to the aspects which I did not like about this is, that it feels sticky on the lips, when I press my lips they tend to stick together. When applied with a lip brush on well prepared lips, the stickiness can be reduced to a great extent, though not completely. This might be a botheration for some beauties. Also, might dry out dry lips, if not applied on top of a lip balm. Even though, I do not have dry chapped lips, it tends to make my lips feel dry.

Positives:

  1. Insanely pigmented
  2. Easy to apply and smooth in texture
  3. Lovely color, infact a must have for this reason
  4. The smell is awesome
  5. Gives a nice sheen to lips, unlike some matte lipsticks.

Negatives:

  1. Sticky, can be reduced with the use of lip brush.
  2. Might be drying, can be dealt with a lip balm.
  3. Does not last for fourteen hours
  4. The packaging could have been better, somehow the stark white cover is not appealing.

A Party look created with this lipstick:)

crimson

Price: INR 525

Summary: A shade, that is a must have for the color. Very versatile color, ideal for brides to be and for wear to parties and weddings. Lasts upto eight hours! The cons are that it makes the lips feel sticky and dry, which can be combated to some extent with the usage of a lip brush and lip balm.

Product Score: 4/5, points taken for the stickyness factor.

Product sent by Company, but the review as always is honest.

Brown Black Smokey Eye Look with Red Lips

So, the combination is quite bold and endearing 🙂 . This is inspired by Angelina Jolie’s look in the movie “The Tourist” , which I saw recently. All throughout the movie she sports brown black smokey eyes with nude lips or  bright red lips. I am in love with her make-up looks in the movie:). She has the attitude to carry it off with elan. It is not an exact look, just inspired :). Please do not compare it with her look in the movie 🙂 .

The first pic depicts the steps :

And this is how I paired it , with Red Lips 😛 hope you like my attempt 🙂 Its quite a bold look !

Do drop in your thoughts, they are valued !

Maybelline Colorsensational Lipstick “Pleasure me Red” Review and Swatch

So, all of my dear readers know that I love to wear Red, especially on my lips 🙂 . Infact, I am obsessed with the color and to add to my stash of red lipsticks, I hereby present the most lovely, the most wearable, the most smooth, the most …… the most…… ….  RED LIPSTICK , that too on a budget ! what more could I ask for ! Yes, its the “Pleasure me Red” from the Colorsensational range of Maybelline lipsticks.

download

The Shade: A very pretty, wearable deep red with warm undertones. It is not stark or neonish, so the dusky skinned ladies out there, do pay heed 🙂

IMG_4140

The texture and pigmentation: Very smooth and intense pigmentation. Also leaves a stain behind after eating and drinking. Usually lasts longer than most Colorsensational lipsticks.

The Lastability:  Lasts for upto four hours, if you do not eat or drink. Else leaves a stain behind.

download

My experience: One of my favourite red colored lipsticks, it does not stand out or is neonish like “Ruby woo”, in fact,  very easy to carry. So, all those who are “Red Phobic”, do check it out. It would make an ideal red lipstick for weddings, both for the bride and the guests, ladies of course :P. Also leaves a tint behind after wearing off and could also be worn as a stain. The texture is very smooth and hydrating. It does not dry out the lips or accentuate the fine lines of the lips. Though, it might tend to bleed in summers, so the usage of a lip liner is advised then. Else, it does not bleed and applies neat. I mentioned about it because, it seems the bullet would soften up in summers and high temperatures.

The Price: INR 350, yes price hike my dear friends!

Summary: A red lipstick which deserves to be  the first red lipstick of some beautiful woman, who has not had her tryst with the color “Red” yet! Definitley a must have lipstick and color , on budget. I am impressed. This is especially made for dusky beauties, because it tends towards maroon and is not at all stark or neon in appearance. The quality as per price is great.
