Look : Grey and black smokey eyes with flicked eyeliner

Since Valentine’s day around the corner. I conjured up this look, which is apt to the theme and would look both during the day or at night :). Since, the flick in the look is extended, this look should complement beauties with large eyes and bigger lid space.

DSC_0179

Eye Make-up:  After priming the eyes, I used a Grey eye shadow and applied it all over the lid. Then took some black eye shadow on an angled brush and lined my eyes along the upper lash line and gave it a flick at the end, pulling it little upwards towards the brows. Again, I patted some Grey eye shadow all over the lids. till the flick and along the lash line also, blended nicely to create a even look. Also applied Loreal Kajal on the water line and Loreal volume million lashes mascara.

On Face: I primed my face with Face-It primer, then applied maybelline BB stick all over the face as well as on my eye sockets. Then Applied Maybelline dream matte mousse foundation and finished with a light dusting of Rimmel Lasting Finish Compact powder. On cheeks, I applied NYX blush “mocha” and highlighted the corner of eyes, bridge of nose and high of cheek bones with Mac “vanilla” pigment.

On lips I have Mac Lipstick “captive” over a nude lip liner.

Sigma Make-up Eye Shadow “muse” swatch and review

I got this as a complementary sample from sigma and love this shade for its texture and superb pigmentation. A great eye shadow if you are fine with its price 🙂

IMG_1247

The shade: It is a beautiful matte grey with fine silver speckles, and works great as a crease shade and also complements some colors like pink, orange and turquoise beautifully.

The pigmentation, lasting and texture: Great and almost opaque in one swipe. Love it for this and stays put for up to five to six hours . The blend-ability is impeccable and is very smooth to apply .

The only con I feel is , it stains badly if you are not careful with its application. It requires neat hands for a epitome effect 🙂

MY First Attempt At Makeover

So, dear friends.. The thought of doing a makeover on someone has been lurking in my mind for long and it was all made possible by my dear friend Shuvasri  🙂  My ardent thanks to her for the co-operation 🙂

15-08

A little bit about Shuvasri’s face type, she is a traditional Bengali beauty with large eyes and cute face. So, I thought of doing a very much unconventional dark smokey eyes with nude lips on her. The look is quite bold and she carries it effortlessly.

Things used for the makeover :

  1. Colorbar Foundation
  2. MAC Studio Fix Powder in NC 42
  3. Lotus natural Blend 4in1 Stick
  4. Maybelline Color Tattoo “Fierce and Tangy” as concealer
  5. Sleek Bad Girl Palette
  6. Essence Eye Shadow “disco queen”
  7. NYX “Mocha” powder blush
  8. Essence Eye Shadow “mystic lemon” as highlighter
  9. Essence Multi-action Mascara
  10. Loreal Volume Million Lashes Mascara
  11. Lakme Liplove Lipstick ” aphrodite blush” on lips

A Guide to do Smokey Eyes without Looking Over Made Up

I always believe make up is to enhance our features and not to make us look some one else. I love experimenting with colors and various looks especially eye make-up and the result, as is, you see it on my blog. However, when it comes to my own make-up, which I sport on various situations, is always sober and toned down. I love make-up but do not like myself appear made up 🙂 . The look which I am posting today, is one I sported during a dinner over last weekend and unfortunately, have only one picture of it.

So, I am just going to list out the ingredients, I used to do this look and the prodecure.

Things Needed :

  1. Eye primer to prime and set the base for eye make-up
  2. A jet black base, to start the smokey eyes, like kajal or gel liner. I used Maybelline lasting drama gel liner
  3. A matte black eye shadow, I used “total blackout” from Jordana
  4. A simple blending brush
  5. Kajal/kohl , I used Maybelline Colossal Kajal
  6. Mascara , I used Lakme Eyeconic Mascara
  7. On face, I used MAC Studio Fix Powder Foundation NC 42
  8. Blush is “Mocha” from NYX
  9. On lips I have a clear gloss from Maybelline

How to do it :

  1. Prime the eye lids.
  2. Then apply a coat of jet black base, kajal or gel liner. I used the Maybelline gel liner as a all over black base.
  3. Then I took some matte black eye shadow and started blending the black base. The intensity is built up gradually with continuous “windshield wiper” movements of blending.
  4. Once done, apply kohl on the water line and finish off with mascara.
  5. While doing eye make-up , I always do my face make-up later. So, I primed my face with moisturizer and applied the MAC Studio Fix Powder.
  6. Then applied a hint of pink blush mentioned above
  7. On lips, a clear gloss.

And here is the complete look 🙂 Do drop in your thoughts 🙂

Maybelline Lasting Drama Gel Liner “Black” Review and Swatches

This is an established name when it comes to make-up and one can find infinite reviews of the same in the beauty domain. Still, this is my favorite liner, I just cannot do without it. This is a versatile, high precision product and can be used to line, tightline as well as a very good eye shadow base for black smokey eyes.

The Color: Stark Black

The Texture: Very smooth and soft, applies hassle free to give beautiful lined eyes.

The Pigmentation: Very black and intensely pigmented.

The Packaging: Very sturdy and easy to carry , but might break if dropped from a height. My tub was dropped twice, but it didn’t break 🙂 . Also, comes with a applicator brush which is very useful and I mostly apply using it , I couldn’t locate it while writing the review. Sorry for this 🙂

The Lasting: Lasts as long as eight hours on me, which according to me is very good 🙂 It does not budge at all, if applied over a primer. Without primer it tends to wear off after three hours on my oily lids.

My Experience: This is my multi-purpose liner, kajal, eye shadow base , a all in one product for me. I put it to good use, by using it to line my waterline, it doesn’t irritate the eyes at all. I wear contact lenses and can vouch it as safe for contact lens wearers too. When doing black smokey eyes, I use it as a all over lid base, and then blend it with a eye shadow, which make the look really intense. A great liner, especially if you are not comfortable with liquid liners. Gel liners tend to be more forgiving and ensure easy rectification of mis-application, if any :). It is smooth, smudge free, intensely pigmented and a great device to dress up your eyes with. If you love doing winged lined eyes or graphic eyes, this is a product one can vouch for 🙂

Price: INR 410

Summary: Highly Recommended ! Especially If you are in India, where there is dearth of good gel liners on budget. Great in all respect except that I feel it dries up soon in the tub, still it can be used with few drops of Inglot Duraline or keeping the tub inverted while storing.

Product Score: 4.5/5

I have used it in a lot of looks on my blog!

Sleek I-Divine “Bad Girl” Palette Review and Swatches

This palette had been left unbought and waiting in my lust list for long, until Agnibanya of http://agnibanya.blogspot.in/ , told me that she plans to place an order with Sleekmakeup.com, in a jiffy I joined in :). Yes, I absolutely do not regret this hasty decision of mine ! I also ordered two of their blushes, which I would review on the coming days.

Girls in love of smokey eyes, and related eye shadows, lend me your ears . err ! rather , lend me your eyes, and read this post. A one stop palette to fill all smokey eye lover’s insatiable lust.

The shades : A palette comprising of, twelve eye shadows fit for doing smokey eye looks and two excellent highlighting shades.

The texture and pigmentation: Amazing pigmentation and color depth , soft and hassle free. They are easy to pat and blend. Most of the eye shadows are metallic finish which shimmers.

The lasting: Lasts long upto four hours without primer, do I need to explain more?

The packaging: Come in a sleek palette, which is sturdy and travel friendly but the brush that comes with it is pretty useless.

My experience: Yes , I would buy it again and again, if it gets over. One stop for all intense, smokey eye looks. The shade selection comprises of deep blues, purples and deep jungle greens, though some shades look similar. It has a jet bllack eye shadow called “Noir” , which is really black and very versatile , long lasting as well. So those who are in the quest for deep black Eye shadows, do keep this in mind.

The colors can be mixed and matched to create a lot of looks. I am totally satisfied and its indeed value for money. If you get a chance to share the shipping costs with someone, do plunge in.

Brown Black Smokey Eye Look with Red Lips

So, the combination is quite bold and endearing 🙂 . This is inspired by Angelina Jolie’s look in the movie “The Tourist” , which I saw recently. All throughout the movie she sports brown black smokey eyes with nude lips or  bright red lips. I am in love with her make-up looks in the movie:). She has the attitude to carry it off with elan. It is not an exact look, just inspired :). Please do not compare it with her look in the movie 🙂 .

The first pic depicts the steps :

And this is how I paired it , with Red Lips 😛 hope you like my attempt 🙂 Its quite a bold look !

Do drop in your thoughts, they are valued !
